Hong Kong Disneyland shows more of Toy Story Playland model Posted by Kristof on Monday, January 25 2010
Hong Kong Disneyland released a video last week showing more of their future projects, including their version of Toy Story Playland. But the model shown in the video is in fact the Walt Disney Studios Park version!
See the video here and a collection of screenshots taken from it are below.
Do note that some of the concept art and items shown on the model are dated. The concept art of RC Racer with Andy's house on the background was a very early draft.
Toy Story Playland construction from the sky! Posted by Kristof on Sunday, November 22 2009
A WDSfans.com friend has send us in 2 photos showing an overhead view of the Toy Story Playland construction site.
The building with the rounded roof on the first picture is in fact the queue building for the Toy Soldiers Parachute Drop attraction. The foundations for the Slinky Dog Zig-Zag Spin can be seen on the left on the same photo.
The foundations for RC Racer can be seen on the left on the second photo.
Toy Story Playland appears on Resort map Posted by Kristof on Monday, October 5 2009
The Toy Story Playland attractions have been have been added to the Disneyland Paris resort map.
This map is used on the official website and brochures.
And Slinky Dog's tail catches up... Posted by Anthony on Monday, September 14 2009
To add to the attraction posters published over the weekend, here's one final Toy Story Playland visual, released today, for Slinky Dog Zig Zag Spin.
The image shows Slinky's body curving across the poster, with Hamm, Woody, Buzz and a Little Green Man riding on top. The actual attraction will be a circular Music Express ride, similar to Scuttle's Scooters in Mermaid Lagoon at Tokyo DisneySea.
Confused by the name, then? There's no "Zig Zag" motion involved - this is actually the French name of Slinky Dog himself - so it's a mixture of the two. The catchier, and clearer, Slinky Dog Spin was probably the working title before this compromise.
Guests will queue through a building themed to look like the giant, opened box of the toy itself, covered with Slinky Dog logos and instructions.
Playland in posters - first visuals revealed Posted by Anthony on Monday, September 14 2009
Despite Euro Disney S.C.A. nor any part of Disneyland Paris having yet officially announced the 2010 project Toy Story Playland, brand new official images have been released to promote the mini-land as part of next year's 'New Generation Festival' events.
Singling out Toy Soldiers Parachute Drop and RC Racer for their own images, the three poster-style publicity visuals also feature a key visual for the entire project. Though mostly rather basic in design, the two attraction images may well give an idea of the logos to be positioned at the entrances of these future Walt Disney Studios Park attractions.
The "key visual" for the entire project features the track of RC Racer, Toy Soldiers parachuting in from the skies and Slinky Dog wrapped around the Toy Story logo. At the actual land, however, the 'Playland' letters will be made up of toy building blocks.
Also published were several logos for the new "theme year" and a key visual, below, showing characters parachuting into the park - indeed, this idea from the Toy Soldier's attraction will become the theme of the entire year's promotion. You can see more of the non-Studios images here.
Naming the attractions Posted by Kristof on Thursday, September 10 2009
The official names of the three Toy Story Playland attractions will be:
Toy Soldiers Parachute Drop
RC Racer
Slinky Dog's Zig-Zag Spin

New HKDL Toy Story Land concept art released. Posted by Kristof on Saturday, July 11 2009
Hong Kong Disneyland released a new piece of concept art for their Toy Story Land.
Sources have confirmed to us in the mean time that Toy Story (Play)land was in fact supposed to be a Disneyland Paris exclusive, but it was decided the very last minute to clone the entire land with its attractions to the struggling Hong Kong park.
However, our sources did stretch out that our version will benefit from the WDS' forest which creates a much better immersive environment.

Hong Kong Disneyland to receive copy of Toy Story Playland Posted by Kristof on Tuesday, June 30 2009
The first real piece of concept art for Toy Story Playland has finally been revealed, although it won't be for Walt Disney Studios Park!
Disney just released a press release and concept art for its Hong Kong Disneyland expansion plan. This will include a carbon copy of our very own Toy Story Playland.
Expect to see an identical land, only mirrored. The barrel entrance will be located on the Costuming Building side towards the future Ratatouille entrance.
Official press release:
"Andy, the young boy from the Disney·Pixar Toy Story films, has left his toys unattended in this immersive and highly themed environment, based on one of Disney·Pixar’s most popular film series. While Andy is away, the toys come to life and play...and Guests are invited to join!
Key Technology and Creative Elements • Oversized outdoor rides and photo opportunities allow Guests to experience the different perceptions of scale, and shrink to the size of a toy. • One attraction includes a shuttle coaster which propels Guests along a U-shaped style track. • A drop-style parachute attraction lets Guests join a “training mission,” plunging from a 25m tall tower. • Guests will enjoy fun, immersive and interactive environments with life-size toys. • A themed food kiosk provides a barrel of fun snacks and refreshments and Guests can shop for Toy Story inspired collectibles at the merchandise location."
Toy Story Playland decorated fences soon. Posted by Kristof on Friday, June 19 2009
Grandmath reports on Disney Central Plaza that decorations will soon be placed on the blue construction fences currently circling the Toy Story Playland.
He says they will be in the same vain as the decorations during the Buzz Lightyear Laser Blast and Toon Studio constructions.
These would be the first real public confirmations of the project.
To be continued...

First Toy Story Playland plan hits the net! Posted by Kristof on Saturday, May 16 2009
Fan website Newsdlrp.com got their hands on an overview plan of the upcoming Toy Story Playland expansion.
The plan shows the three proposed attractions (Slinky Dog, RC Racer and the Parachute Tower) among swirling paths. Themed elements like the oversized toys and the covered queue lines are not indicated.
Sources have already informed us that this plan might be dated, since RC Racer would only feature one race track, instead of two, at least that's according to them...
John Lasseter announces Toy Story attraction Posted by Kristof on Wednesday, May 13 2009
Dutch newspaper "De Telegraaf" ran an article today about John Lasseter's Toy Story Playland announcement:
Disneyland Paris will be getting a new attraction based on the movie Toy Story. That's what John Lasseter, head of Disney's Animation Studios, told at the film festival in Cannes. The festival opens with 'Up', the new movie from the producers Pixar and Disney.
'The park will be getting a separate area in which the Toy Story characters will be coming alive', told Lasseter. The new attraction will open in summer of 2010, simultaneously with the release of the third part of the Toy-Story-movies.
Disneyland Paris currently already has an attraction with Buzz Lightyear, one of the characters of the Toy Story-movies.
Many thanks to WDSfans reader "Brian" for sending in the translated article.
Two halfpipe attractions in Toy Story Playland? Posted by Kristof on Saturday, April 4 2009
Disney Central Plaza member "Magnyseb" says he got access to a plan for Toy Story Playland.
According to him, not one, but two identical "Halfpipe attractions" will be constructed near the WDS forest. He continues that the ride vehicles will not be themed to RC Racer himself, but rather generic remote control toys with RC Racer positioned next to the attraction, similar to Cars Quatre Roues Rallye in which guests ride vehicles inspired by designs from the Cars universe.
He concludes that a small playground for the little ones would be added to the Toon Studio expansion as well.
Giant Buzz Lightyear to tower over Toy Story Playland? Posted by Kristof on Monday, March 9 2009
Grandmath, Disney Central Plaza's admin, received information that a giant Buzz Lightyear statue which will measure over 4 meters high, will mark the entrance of Toy Story Playland.
An early concept of a robot holding Scrabble letters forming the land's name has been dropped in favour of the Toy Story star, at least according to Grandmath.
A large statue of Buzz Lightyear already exists at Walt Disney World's All Star Movie Resort.
Branding the RC Racer attraction Posted by Kristof on Friday, February 27 2009
There has been some buzz on message boards for quite some time about which ride manufacturer would construct the RC Racer attraction. Most rumours go between Zamperla's (Mega) Disk'o and Intamin's Halfpipe.
Well according to our sources will the manufacturer be... Zamperla! And in an unexpected spin to the story, the attraction would not be an off-the-shelf Disk'o or Mega Disk'o, but a custom design resembling an Intamin Half Pipe coaster.

Toy Story Playland description leaked out? Posted by Kristof on Wednesday, January 14 2009
"Meeko120103" posted a message on the DLP.info message board yesterday, claiming that he or she got a description in hands of a Toy Story Playland description.
A direct copy/paste from meeko's original post:
Walking down Route 66 you will see a giant Robot, holding Scrabble Letters forming TOY STORY PLAYLAND. The street will split up, left side leading to ARMY MEN PARACHUTE JUMP and SLINKY DOG Ride, the right one towards the forest (and future Expansion that the Imagineers still cook on ) and the RC RACER Halfpipe Coaster. Both ways lead around the SLINKY DOG Ride and connect behind it in front of RC RACER.
ARMY MEN PARACHUTE DROP: Imagine the Pearl Harbor set from Tram Tour and give it Toy Story Colors. A huge Babyphone will guide you to the entrance. Metal Army Barriers, a Toy Jeep and your way continues into a small hangar. Between the ride and Tram Tour you recognize an Airplane (yes, Disney uses Extreme Makeover for old props ) The ride will take you up, 3 guests on each seat, up to 25 meters. (It's the height of Studio 1). Outside you may take pictures on a photo location like if you are jumping with a parachute.
SLINKY THE DOG: Between the¨parachutes and the costuming building (just behind the robot at the entrance) you find this ride. Compare it with a Music Express (carnival ride from Mack), but themed around Slinky chasing his tail around a fire hydrant in the center. Entering left hand (the left road) into a huge plastic woodlog building (in Toy Story 2 you have Mr and Ms Potatohead kissing in it) you will passing along the famous Pixar Ball (the one with the yellow star), KNEX Construction Barriers, huge dominoes and play cubes to have a spin. The ride is facing the Forest and RC RACER, so even waiting you see a lot. Exiting on the right side you encounter Rex the Dinosaur and a barrel with the plastic monkeys forming a chain over the walkway.
RC RACER: Well, 35 meters high, looks like a huge horseshoe upside down. Why? Cause the top is nearly 95 degrees, so when the remote control car that you are seated in will stop on highest position, the only thing holding you in your seat is a lapbar. Literally! Entering the queueline you will follow a racetrack from Carrera, inclusive with black yellow striped barriers. Think Test Track, just walk on it. Leading around the ride you have enough time to see a lot of up and downs. After the ride you and sure a lot of (too) small children will enjoy taking a photo in a set with the remote controled car.
Got some idea? Ready for Toy Story? Maybe enjoy in some weeks already the changed Tram Tour that will sneak around this huge construction site. Instead of leaving straight towards Dinotopia, you make a big S-curved turn through parts of the forest. This is the backside of TOY STORY PLAYLAND; like this you get already some idea of the size of things.
More details and concept art are expected to be shown during the Share Holders Meeting on February 11th 2009.
No Music Express for Toy Story Playland Posted by Kristof on Saturday, December 27 2008
Early concepts pointed out that a Music Express attraction would be part of Toy Story Playland, but it has come to our attention that this will not be the case.
Slinky however, will be the theme of the third attraction besides the Parachute Drop Tower and the Half Pipe coaster, but what kind of ride it will be is not known yet.
Toy Story Playland attractions revealed in survey!! Posted by Kristof on Saturday, December 13 2008
Disneyland Resort Paris has recently started conducting surveys for its new theme for 2010-2011. A few ideas are proposed revolving around different themes going from Pirates to Disney Classics.
Each theme however includes a description for Toy Story Playland, the big novelty for 2010.
- A spinning attraction in which Slinky chases his own tail (Music Express) - A 25 meters high Parachute Tower themed to the Green Army Men. - A Halfpipe attraction based on RC Racer.
Studio Tram Tour road construction fences! Posted by Kristof on Thursday, December 11 2008

More news on the forest cutting permit Posted by Kristof on Friday, November 14 2008
We received some more information regarding the cutting permit we posted about earlier this week. As expected will only a small area of the forest be cut down to allow room for the Toy Story Land and Ratatouille dark ride expansion and to re-route the Studio Tram Tour road between the Station and Dinotopia set.
Walt Disney Studios Park is the only Disney theme park in the world with a real forest within its berm, so its obvious that it will be preserved as good as possible. In fact, plans call for an integration of the forest with the Toy Story Land.
(Partially) Cutting the WDS forest? Posted by Kristof on Sunday, November 9 2008
A permit to cut 3.9900 ha of the forest located within Walt Disney Studios Park has been posted outside the park (near Val d'Europe).
It's rumoured that parts of the forest will have to go to re-route the Studio Tram Tour road which will partially be taken over by a possible Toon Studio expansion in the near future.
Toon Studio expanding with Toy Story Land? Posted by Kristof on Friday, August 22 2008
Laughing Place, an American Disney fan community site, launched the news yesterday about the addition of a Toy Story Land behind Art of Disney Animation. They say the Toon Studio expansion will include up to five kid-friendly attractions and a Meet ‘n’ Greet area, themed to Woody's Roundup. The area, similar to A Bugs Land at Disney's California Adventure Park, will reside alongside the new Ratatouille dark ride and will take over large chunks of the Studio Tram Tour route, which will have to be rerouted.
Projected opening date is somewhere in June 2010, along with the theatrical release of Toy Story 3...
Rumours from French fan sites claimed that the area would be used for temporary, unthemed fair rides, but these wild rumours were quickly debunked by our sources close to the project.
Temporary rides at WDS? NO!!! Posted by Kristof on Tuesday, July 22 2008
A French fan site recently announced that three temporary and unthemed attractions will be build behind Art of Disney Animation to increase capacity. This however, is not true! Our sources reveal that all new rides in the coming years will be well themed and permanent!
