Park enhancements and refurbishments news

With the help of a little bit of Carpet Cleaner...
Posted by raptor1982 on Wednesday, March 28 2007

Construction fences came down past weekend to reveal a freshly refurbished Flying Carpets over Agrabah. Ripped fabric, worn wood and chipped paint are all gone now and leave behind a brand new attraction, ready for its Toon Studio initiation.

But there's more! The newly added Oasis planters are undergoing some changes as well. The planters have now been filled up with sand and the brown railings have been repainted silver.

The Kodak viewing platform has been repainted purple (used to be blue), but other areas like the "Green room" flooring (queue area behind the backdrop) have not been repaired (yet?).

Scraping the floor
Posted by raptor1982 on Sunday, February 4 2007

Work on the new flooring in front of Walt Disney Studios Park has been started as the concrete floor has been completely scraped off, leaving a bare concrete ground layer behind.

It's expected that tiles or something similar will be used in favour of coloured concrete for a better durability.

Rehab beyond park gates
Posted by raptor1982 on Monday, January 29 2007

Rehab projects are sproucing up all around the Resort to get the parks nice and shiny for the 15th Anniversary celebration.

This time work has started in front of the Walt Disney Studios gates as the floor leading up to the park has suffered from the many people, heavy delivery trucks and salt during the freezing Marne-la-Vallée weather.

DLRP_bopazot has posted some photos on the MiceChat forums showing how guests are welcomed by another line up of construction fences, leading to the far right of the park's gates.

Still in make-up
Posted by Anthony on Monday, November 27 2006

The Front Lot refurbishment continues slowly but surely, as the repainted Studio Photo shows its refurbished colours and the Studio Services building vanishes under a coat of new white base paint.

With Tower of Terror and most of Animation Courtyard already surrounded by a sea of construction fences, there's definitely no continuity errors in this production...

Front Lot refurbishment continues

With the repainting of Walt Disney Studios Store almost completed, work has moved across the Place des Frères Lumière to Studio Photo and the Stroller & Wheelchair rental building, which has been given a new white basecoat in preparation for a welcome repaint.

Work is also still ongoing at the park's ticket desks, where the canopy pillars are being repainted following the refurbishment of the inside walls last month.

Walt Disney Studios Store in rehab!
Posted by raptor1982 on Sunday, September 10 2006

The Walt Disney Studios Store on Front Lot is receiving for the first time in its history a rehab on the façade! Green construction walls fence off the right side of the building, blocking the view on the work in progress.
Sources claim that a darker orange might be used for a warmer touch on Front Lot.

A new silver screen
Posted by raptor1982 on Wednesday, September 6 2006

The refurb of Cinémagique slated for 22nd to 25th January 2007 will most likely include the replacement of the current screen. This new screen is more than welcome since scratches and dents on the almost five year old screen can be clearly seen while watching the show.

Lights, camera, refurbishments!

The latest calendar of scheduled attraction closures has just been released, and it appears that, as Walt Disney Studios Park nears its 5th birthday, the attractions will be getting more care to compensate for their age. Studio Tram Tour will be given a mysteriously long 3-week refurbishment in November this year, whilst Flying Carpets Over Agrabah will close for 3 weeks in March, likely to allow major work to take place in this area of the park for the Toon Studio enhancement project.

The full closure schedule is as follows:
Studio Tram Tour: 6th to 24th November 2006
Animagique: 13th to 17th November 2006
Rock 'n' Roller Coaster starring Aerosmith: 11th to 14th December 2006
CinéMagique: 22nd to 25th january 2007
Flying Carpets Over Agrabah: 5th to 23rd March 2007

Putting Mickey's trailer on the map
Posted by raptor1982 on Tuesday, July 18 2006

The summer park plans have been updated with Mickey's trailer's new location. The meet 'n' greet setting moved early this year from Animation Courtyard to Production Courtyard to make way for the Toon Studio project.

Backlot to become "Action Studios"?
Posted by Anthony on Tuesday, June 13 2006

In line with the rumoured renaming of Animation Courtyard and Production Courtyard to "Toon Studios" and "Hollywood Studios" respectively, a new rumour has just surfaced that the park's Backlot zone could be renamed "Action Studios" (or similar) to complete the transformation project.

The rumour once again comes from Peter Bell's MiceAge article, where he also confirms that this area of the park - which has arguably been the most popular since the 2002 opening - will infact see very few visual changes. The new name would, however, bring the three main zones of the studios together with three similar, consistent names that make the style of their theme and the contents of their attractions much more obvious to first-time guests.

It should be noted, however, that this renaming rumour appears to be the least credible of the three, since the "Backlot" name not only matches its "Front Lot" partner but has arguably become far more well-known with guests than the unpopular Courtyard monikers.

You can discuss this rumour right now on our forum.

Cars billboard up on Studio 1

The Chicken Little billboard on Disney Studio 1, which has been taken down last week, is now replaced by one of Disney-Pixar's Cars.

Good bye Chicken Little!
Posted by Anthony on Monday, March 27 2006

The controversial Chicken Little billboard, which has covered almost the entire front wall of Disney Studio 1 since August 2005, has now finally being removed! Hold on, though - the scaffolding which supported the billboard has been kept in place, as this is not the end of the Studio 1 billboard. In the place of Chicken Little will soon be a giant advertisement for this Summer's Disney/Pixar film, Cars.

New information board
Posted by raptor1982 on Sunday, March 19 2006

The old information board on the Disney Brothers Plaza has been replaced by a stylish Art Deco board a few weeks ago. The new board mentions the waiting times for each attractions and the hours of the spectacles. The characters locations however are no longer indicated.
Also, an older version of the park map has been used which doesn't display the Fantasia Fountains, the Reign of Fireset and shows a black and white Studio Tram Tour façade.

Studio 1's timeline of Disney classics
Posted by Anthony on Wednesday, March 15 2006

The programme of enhancements to Walt Disney Studios Park was fully kick-started earlier this year with the addition of several colourful new giant movie posters on the two sides of Disney Studio 1. The Animation Courtyard side features Pinocchio, Dumbo, The Little Mermaid, The Lion King and Monsters Inc, whilst the Production Courtyard side features 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, The Chronicles Of Narnia, Mary Poppins and Pirates Of The Caribbean.

The idea of using classic Disney posters to brighten up the park was used in September 2005, when each parade route "lighting rig" was given 3 new posters from the Disney archives. It is a common theme for movie studio park to feature posters on their soundstages - Universal Hollywood do this, as do Disney-MGM Studios and the Hollywood Pictures Backlot at Disney's California Adventure. The key difference here, however, is that these posters are entirely for modern features, rather than the classic archival posters used at the Paris Studios.
