Monsters Inc.
The
Script
All
monsters, report to the scare floor immediately! You’re
invited to step into this high-alert Scream Scene
and meet Sulley, consistent “Scarer Of The Month”,
as he poses for photos next to Boo’s door under
the angular roof of the Monsters, Inc. scare floor.
The
entire area next to Disney Studio 1 has been cordoned
off with yellow markings and warning signs by the
Child Detection Agency, whilst notices and advertisements
right out of Monstropolis such as “Adopt a monster”
and “Support your local CDA” litter the
walls around the area.
In
an attempt to recruit some new screams and solve the
ongoing energy crisis in Monstropolis, some special
“Scare Monitors” have been installed next
to the photo location. This series of tubes and scream
canisters is hooked up to a scream detection unit,
which detects the level of children’s screams
and sends them off right away to Monstropolis, to
power an extra light bulb or two!
Character
& Movie Notes
Monsters, Inc. was Pixar’s fourth film and was
directed by Pete Doctor, with the voice talent of
John Goodman as Sulley.
The film was nominated for Academy Awards in Best
Original Score, Best Sound Effects Editing, Best Animated
Feature and Best Original Song. It won Best Original
Song for Randy Newman’s “If I Didn’t
Have You” but narrowly missed out on the feature
animation Oscar to critics’ favourite “Spirited
Away”.
Sulley's fur in the movie has over 2,320,413 hairs.
Throughout the character development stages, the animators
considered giving Sulley glasses or tentacles instead
of legs. They also considered making Mike arm-less
with only legs.
It took between 11 and 12 hours to render a single
frame for Sulley because of his 2.3 million individually
animated hair strands.
Production
Footnotes
The area of this photo located was previously used
as an overflow seating area for the Restaurant En
Coulisse in Disney Studio 1, with blank yellow walls
and two trees.
Rumours of a Monsters, Inc. photo location first surfaced
in early February 2006, and were reinforced when a
large poster for the film was placed above the area
as part of the general “Walt Disney Studios
Enhancements” programme.
Construction walls went up around the area on February
25th 2006, the entire new themed area was complete
by April 8th 2006.
The “Scream Monitors” didn't measure the
strength of guests’ screams when the photo location
opened, but was added later by the end of May 2006.
A rumoured statue of Mike was added later in July
2006.
A sign leading to the photo point was added on Disney
Bros. Plaza 3 months later.
