Disney’s Newport Bay Club is Disneyland Paris’ largest hotel and in 1992 even the largest in Western-Europe with almost 1100 rooms. It was designed by architect Robert A.M. Stern in a New England nautical theme with many references to boats and ships.

Although there have been numerous refurbishments over the past 20 years, the entire complex is starting to show its age. And that’s why Euro Disney SCA and hotel management, as well as Disneyland Paris Imagineering have worked out a complete refurbishment from top to bottom.

Soon scaffolding will go up on the hotel façade and all wooden planks will be stripped and be replaced with a synthetic replacement which will be much more durable against the harsh Marne-la-Vallée weather. Special insulation will be placed behind the new planks for ecological reasons and all windows will be replaced. And it doesn’t stop there, the entire roof is going to be replaced as well and the light bulbs on the façade will be upgraded to LED technology with special caps that simulate the current yellowish glow.

On the inside the lobby will be redesigned to allow a better guest flow, as well as the reception desks. Other areas of the hotel like the restaurants and swimming pool will all get some attention.

On 26 September 2013 a group of bloggers was invited by Disneyland Paris for presentations about the future refurbishment projects in the resort. This included a guided tour of Disney’s Newport Bay Club and a look at the mock up of the upcoming new room designs.

Just like the make-overs of Disney’s Hotel Santa Fe and Disney’s Sequoia Lodge they will carry Disney touches on the walls. Classic drawings of Mickey, Minnie, Donald and Pluto are featured on wallpaper and a Mickey Mouse shaped steering wheel serves as the bed headboard. A small desk with mirror has all the connections for wired internet and power plugs hidden from view behind a small door.

The remodeled Executive Rooms were previewed as well:

Note: it was pointed out during our tour that the runners were missing on the beds.

The new rooms definitely look great and a lot warmer then the previous ones. Make the comparison: on the left the current rooms, on the right the remodeled rooms.

The refurbishment will start probably next year and will be done in 3 phases (North, Central and East wings).
